The Park Theatre: Leonard Schein Brought World Cinema to Vancouver

Leonard Schein is a well-known figure in Vancouver. After moving from California to Canada as a young adult, his journey took him from a licensed British Columbian psychologist to owning several independent theatres!

Schein helped shaped Vancouver's cultural landscape. His love for international cinema was brought to The Park Theatre in Cambie Village, introducing Vancouver audiences to films from Europe, Asia, and beyond - titles you could not find elsewhere in the city at the time.

Not long after, he founded the Vancouver International Film Festival (VIFF). Now in its 44th year, VIFF has grown into a thriving community of film lovers and creators, hosting screenings, talks, live performances, and conferences celebrating film and film culture.
