The Secret Everyone’s Talking About in Vancouver🍜🍔
Updated: Aug 4, 2025

Potluck Hawker Eatery is all about bringing Southeast Asian comfort to Cambie Village!
Located in the heart of Cambie Village, Vancouver, this vibrant spot curates a perfect balance of bold Southeast Asian flavours which has gained a loyal following over the years.
We sat down with Chef Justin Cheung to talk about the heart and soul behind Potluck Hawker Eatery. His culinary philosophy is simple but powerful:
“Cook the food you enjoy eating.”
This mindset is reflected in every dish on the menu which is a tribute to the flavours that shaped his upbringing. From his uncle’s hawker stall in Penang, Malaysia, to his wife’s Filipino roots, and even to meals shared at his friend’s Vietnamese restaurant, Justin brings an authentic, multicultural influence to every bite.
When Potluck first opened its doors, Justin never intended to include burgers or sandwiches on the menu. But one dish changed that plan: the Salted Egg Fried Chicken Sandwich.
Crispy, rich, and packed with umami, this unexpected hit quickly became a fan favourite and we are just as hungry to order this sandwich as you are!
Unlike Potluck’s many share-style dishes, the sandwich is the perfect grab-and-go option for busy Vancouverites looking for a flavour-packed meal on the move.

Last month, I wandered into a little pop-up market in Cambie Village and stumbled upon a food stall that instantly reminded me of my travels through Southeast Asia. I tried a Salted Egg Fried Chicken Sandwich that was unlike anything I had ever tasted before—crispy and bursting with flavor. It turns out that it was inspired by the original site where Chef Justin Cheung began his culinary journey, and I love how he infuses so much heart into his dishes. That moment not only filled my stomach but also brought back such fond memories of my adventures abroad.
